Double alumnus and craigslist founder Craig Newmark supports new Women in Tech Initiative at Case Western Reserve University
In 2018, Case Western Reserve University double alumnus and craigslist founder Craig Newmark (CIT ‘75, GRS ‘77, computer science) pledged to help launch a new Women in Tech initiative at his alma mater with a $100,000 gift. With a concentration on computer science, this program will provide resources and networking opportunities to students who support females in tech embarking on careers in science and technology.
Newmark’s gifts are used to bolster programs that support students who support women in science and technology, including creating a national network to connect women and their allies who study technology and work in the field.
Newmark has been a vocal advocate for the advancement of women in technology and ensuring that women have equal opportunities in the field. He has provided previous support for students in the Case School of Engineering to attend international conferences, including the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing and the Society of Women in Engineering’s WE17, events that give students opportunities to connect with their colleagues across the country to celebrate and connect women in technological fields.
