Drawing on principles of emergent design, we wish to encourage open-ended experimentation within communities of diverse experience, skill, and domain expertise, allowing new connections, patterns, and approaches to emerge. Recalling the paradoxical Hebrew image of “the face of the deep” (‘al pney-tehom) from the first creation myth in the book of Genesis, we conceive emergent design as a generative process in which new possibilities may surface from the primordial, seemingly chaotic depths of undetermined, interactive play.
Design thinking is what you do when you have only a vague sense of where you want to go, no idea of how to get there, and don't even know what you need to know. It is a discovery process that does experiments to find out next steps.
