We are kicking off the school year with a shout out to the CWRU Entrepreneurs behind Tippit Tea, a Case Western Reserve student startup committed to quality and building community. Tippit Tea offers premium bubble tea for students on and off the meal plan. They expect to expand their business through a food truck offering this coming 2023-24 academic year, to help serve the growing student population.
Tippit Tea was founded in 2022 by computer science major Elwin He, biology/pre-med major Patrick Yeh, and chemical engineering major Andrew Wu in their Tippit House dorm room. Elwin and Patrick went to high school together in the Bay area and Andrew came to CWRU from Boston - both booming boba industries. Together they brought the East coast and the West coast together to create: Tippit Tea.
CWRU Entrepreneurs, Elwin, Patrick and Andrew, felt that there is a lack of decent bubble tea that is easily accessible on campus, and with the added bonus of being on the meal plan. So in March of 2022, They set forth on a plan to curate a premium drink made with the best ingredients, meaning that they brew loose leaf tea in-house and use fresh milk over powder, to create the best bubble tea drinking experience. These three founders believed they could bring the spirit of innovation to a rapidly growing food industry by focusing on an artisanal product that connects culture to the CWRU community.
This Fall, Elwin, Patrick, and Andrew are looking to hire work-study, student staff, and establish a food truck with bubble tea on campus, making it even more accessible to students to experience high-quality tea and beverages made from sustainably sourced ingredients. They are working with Matt Vann, owner of the Jolly Scholar, to provide quality bubble tea made in a more traditional way. They hope that they can improve the dining options at CWRU, one boba milk tea at a time.
Not only can you now access bubble tea through your meal plan, Tippit Tea also caters events. They are open for catering student club events on campus! Historically, Tippit Tea has offered catering services for events such as Undergraduate Research Society, Thwing Study Over, and RHA, among various other campus clubs. They are hoping to expand their club catering for the 2023-24 academic year. So pop out your calendars and get to scheduling.
