Lessons learned in hand hygiene after COVID-19: An expert weighs in

When '23-24 Veale Faculty Fellow Shanina C Knighton PhD, RN, CIC began pursuing her doctorate in nursing in 2013, she sought evidence to support a theory: patient hand hygiene should be prioritized the same way it is for healthcare providers. In the years since, she's proven just that, emphasizing the need for patients to be able to self-manage hand hygiene during inpatient stays. Now an adjunct associate professor at Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Knighton continues to work to better promote hand hygiene practices.
