Project STEP-UP

Founded in 1988, the award-winning Project STEP-UP (Student Tutoring Effort to Promote Utilization of Potential) initiative has provided tutoring and mentoring to elementary, middle and high school students throughout the Cleveland area.

Originally under the umbrella of FOCUS (Facilitated Outreach for Community and University Success) Programs in the Office of Student Affairs, STEP-UP operates as a school and community-based tutoring initiative that supports students from kindergarten through 12th grade with their academics.

STEP-UP invites both volunteer and paid work-study students from CWRU to serve throughout the year, and requires at least one semester of commitment. Non-work-study stipends and graduate assistants are currently funded by the Statewide Mathematics and Literacy Tutoring Grant.
