Carol L. Moss, MBA

Senior Vice President of University Relations and Development

Carol L. Moss is Senior Vice President, University Relations and Development at Case Western Reserve University, a position she has held since 2019. Her career in development spans more than three decades and includes exceptional leadership of successful, and often record-breaking fundraising campaigns.

During her tenure as CWRU’s Senior Vice President, University Relations and Development, philanthropic giving to the university has grown significantly. The university achieved two of its top three fundraising years under Moss’s direction and set an annual fundraising record of $211 million in 2024. Moss also led a targeted effort to increase scholarship support for students, raising more than $250 million in less than six years—the previous scholarship campaign raised the same amount over 11 years. Currently, she oversees strategy for CWRU’s upcoming university-wide campaign, preparations for its 2026 bicentennial celebration, and fundraising for the new $300 million Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building, which will open in October 2026.

From 2011 to 2019, Moss served as Case Western Reserve University’s Vice President for Health Sciences Development. In this role, she was responsible for fundraising and alumni engagement at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, the School of Dental Medicine and the School of Medicine. Her contributions to the success of the university’s Forward Thinking capital campaign were notable, as giving by supporters from the schools she represented accounted for $800 million of the overall $1.82 billion raised in the campaign. Further, each of these schools set and surpassed several fundraising records, with the medical school increasing its original goal to $500 million, up from $350 million, to finish the campaign at $667 million.

Prior to joining Case Western Reserve, Moss held concurrent positions at the University of California, San Francisco—Vice Chancellor for Development and Alumni Relations and Vice President of the UCSF Foundation. At UCSF, she was responsible for alumni relations and philanthropic support for the UCSF Medical Center and the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.

From 2002-2008, Moss was Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Division of Institutional Relations and Development at Cleveland Clinic, where she directed fundraising programs to support capital campaign projects, medical education, patient care, and research activities for the main campus, regional operations, and national and international outreach programs. Moss led Cleveland Clinic’s first-ever comprehensive campaign, raising more than $1.25 billion. In addition, private support for the institution nearly doubled in 2008 to $183 million.

Earlier in her career, Moss also held development positions at Case Western Reserve University’s Case School of Engineering, The Ohio State University, and the University of Pittsburgh.

Moss earned her bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University and her master’s degree from Ohio University.
