Fifty years ago, members of the Class of 1973 walked across the Commencement stage as one of the first undergraduate classes to go through their four years at the newly federated Case Western Reserve University.
This year at Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, they earned another spot in CWRU history: members of the first class of Graduates of Distinction, a new society for undergraduate alumni’s 50th reunions.
To celebrate the occasion, members of the class donated a commemorative brick at the Frank N. and Jocelyne K. Linsalata Alumni Center and made commitments to the Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship.
“The university worked really hard to give us a broad-based education,” said Mary “Mickey” Hammad (NUR ‘73), emerita board member of the Alumni Association and member of the Graduates of Distinction External Committee. “And a number of us had that opportunity because of scholarships or some form of aid.
“Future students deserve that as well,” she continued, “and that’s why we have to give.”
