Student Profile: Caroline Deyoe

Caroline Deyoe

Class Year: 2026

Program: Doctor of Dental Medicine

Caroline Deyoe wasn’t yet in kindergarten when an unfortunate accident—knocking out her two front teeth—introduced her to the world of dentistry. Although requiring extensive orthodontic treatment, Deyoe developed a relationship with her pediatric dentist that allowed her to grow up appreciating the art and science of dentistry.

“Despite needing pediatric oral surgery, restorations, and eventually orthodontic headgear and braces, I loved going to the dentist—and still do,” said Deyoe, now a second-year Doctor of Dental Medicine student at Case Western Reserve University. “I wanted to be just like my pediatric dentist and to be able to help people with their oral health. As I matured, I learned the incredible impact that oral health can have on mental and physical health.”

Growing up as the oldest of five children has contributed to her leadership qualities, she says, as well as to her independence and ability to succeed as a dental student.

“I am still very close to my siblings, which has fueled my ability to genuinely care for others,” Deyoe explained.

Her South Florida upbringing also allowed for a well-rounded experience in an ethnically and culturally diverse population.

“[I feel that] forming relationships with people of different backgrounds—and growing up with an appreciation for diversity—will help me be a better practitioner and member of my community,” she said.

On her visitation day to the School of Dental Medicine, Brian Sherman, director of admissions, and Associate Professor Sena Narendran made strong first impressions of what her experience might be like. Touring the dental clinic and talking with current students made her excited about the quality of the program, the clinical experience and the student body.

“The sealant program was a major draw for me. Gaining experience working with patients so early on in my dental education—and continuing with that program throughout the entirety of my education—was something unique that only Case Western Reserve offered,” said Deyoe. “I wanted to attend a school that was well connected to the community in which they serve.”

The community of Cleveland may be far from South Florida, but she is happy to call it home during her dental studies.

“I love being able to eat authentic Italian food from Little Italy and enjoy going to some cool hangout spots in Ohio City and the Flats with friends. Mitchell's Ice Cream has been one place I make sure I visit with all my out-of-town visitors—toasted pistachio is a must try!”
