The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusive Excellence will host a VITALS discussion panel, titled “Reimagining Disability as a Strength in Healthcare.”
More than 20% of Americans live with a disability, and 3.1% of practicing physicians have a disability. To ensure healthcare professionals better understand the unique health issues individuals with disabilities may face, experts suggest more attention should be given to disability concerns within medical school curriculums, hospital resources, clinical accommodations and clinical treatment. Speakers will discuss the need to heighten awareness of advancements and disparities in healthcare among physicians and patients with disabilities.
Speakers include:
- Julia Knopes, PhD, research scientist, Department of Bioethics, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine
- Tracy Marie Greenberg, patient and family advisor, advocate for rare disease awareness, MetroHealth System
- Rachel Lutner, JD, senior associate vice president, Office of Equity, Case Western Reserve University
- Eboni Porter, MEd, director, Disability Resources, Case Western Reserve University
