The Spitz Scholars were established in 2011 by University Hospitals and the Case Brain Health Collaborative thanks to a generous gift from Virginia Spitz in remembrance of her husband Buddy (owner of the famous Theatrical Restaurant) who had Alzheimer's Disease. The Spitz Fund awarded 2-year pilot grants to help young investigators develop collaborative and sustainable investigations related to memory, cognition and behavior. There are 17 Spitz Scholars across campus whose work has resulted in 11 peer reviewed publications and 3 federally funded grants. Many Spitz Scholars are active members of CBHI. The Spitz Fund now helps support the CBHI Scholars Program.
