Rui Cao, PhD received an AHA award to develop a wearable device for monitoring critically ill children with congenital heart disease. The technology combines photoacoustic imaging with ultrafast ultrasound. Collaborators include Drs. Animesh Tandon and Patcharapong Suntharos at Cleveland Clinic.

Using AI, this project will utilize low-cost CT images and ECG data to identify patients at risk for ischemia and create a physician decision-support tool for ordering advanced cardiac imaging. Dr. David Wilson is contact PI with co-PIs Dr. Sanjay Rajagopalan at CWRU and UH, and Dr. Sadeer Al-Kindi at Houston Methodist.

This project aims to improve the treatment of ventricular tachycardia and ischemic cardiomyopathy through improving the efficacy of complex ventricular tachycardia ablation procedures, reducing recurrences, and reducing the financial burden on the healthcare system. The team includes Drs. Cenk Cavusoglu, Mark Griswold, and Dan Herzka.

The CAA published the story Sharing the Physics of Life about Dr. Robert Brown, Professor of Physics at CWRU. The article includes contributions from Dr. Hiroyuki Fujita, MS '98, PhD '98, and Dr. Susann Brady-Kalnay.

UH Dept. of Radiology Awards were presented at the Annual Theodore J. Castele, MD Lecture. Kristen Zarcone received the Hiroyuki Fujita, PhD Award: Achievements in MRI Research by a Trainee, and Raymond F. Muzic, Jr., PhD received the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year: Achievements and Leadership in Radiology and/or Biomedical Imaging.

Patrick Wojtylak, UH Nuclear Medicine, received the SNMMI-TS Professional Development Award and the Center of Excellence Award (COE) at the SNMMI 2026 in Los Angeles.

The paper, Foam Fortification: Effect of Perfluorocarbon Gases on the Stability of Sclerosing Agent Foams, by authors Agata Exner, PhD; Salim Abboud, MD; Amir Rahnemai-Azar, MD; Felipe Berg; and Henry Ruhl, received a Distinguished laboratory investigation award from the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR).

Dr. James Basilion's lab is developing and continuously refining imaging agents to better target cancer biomarkers for diagnostic imaging and surgical guidance.
