7 things to do near Cleveland with your family when they’re in town for Parent and Family Weekend
As the leaves turn and days are becoming cooler, Cleveland will transform into a vibrant tapestry of fall colors and seasonal festivities. For families visiting during Parent and Family Weekend (Oct. 9-12)—which coincides with Homecoming and Reunion Weekend this year—the city offers a plethora of activities that blend tradition with modern charm.

1. Explore University Circle
You don't need to go far to explore some of Cleveland's most notable cultural experiences. Case Western Reserve University's neighborhood, University Circle, is home to world-class institutions. Visit the Museum of Contemporary Art, the only contemporary art museum in Cleveland; Cleveland Museum of Art for its renowned collection; or the Cleveland Botanical Garden to experience seasonal displays. 2. Attend the Farm Harvest Festival
Hosted by CWRU, the Farm Harvest Festival on Oct. 11 from 2 to 5 p.m. offers a family-friendly atmosphere with games, food and entertainment. It's a great way to connect with the campus community and enjoy the festive spirit.
3. Visit Holden Arboretum's Fall Forest Fest
On Oct. 11 and 12, Holden Arboretum (pictured above) in Kirtland will host its Fall Forest Fest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities include marshmallow roasting, food trucks, crafts, garden games, and family-friendly mini tram tours showcasing the Skeleton Grove exhibit. It's a perfect spot for families to enjoy the outdoors and celebrate the season.
4. Experience the Apple Butter Festival in Burton
Held at the Century Village Museum in Burton on Oct. 11 and 12, this festival celebrates the autumn season with historical demonstrations and the tradition of making apple butter. It's a unique way to experience local heritage and seasonal flavors.
5. Enjoy an evening at the zoo
The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is hosting its annual "Boo at the Zoo" event throughout October. Families can enjoy animal exhibits, costume-friendly activities and themed entertainment in a festive environment.

7. Participate in CWRU Homecoming and Reunion Weekend activities
From Oct. 9–12, Case Western Reserve will celebrate Homecoming and Reunion Weekend with a variety of events. Highlights include the Spartan Tailgate, the Homecoming football game against Allegheny College, and the Homecoming Court recognition at halftime.
