To the Case Western Reserve University Community:
Given forecasts of significant snowfall starting this evening, Case Western Reserve will close at 6 p.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 2) with the expectation that the university will return to its regular schedule Friday, Feb. 4. This closure includes the university’s dental clinic.
You will receive additional emails regarding more specific details of campus operation later today, but for now we want to convey this primary message: Please treat tomorrow as a true “snow day.”
While some clinical experiences or other academic activities still must continue, we urge faculty to cancel every offering they can this evening and tomorrow. It’s true that we all have far better knowledge of how to teach and learn online, but some still have uneven internet access. More, many instructors are likely to have children home from school or other complications the weather may create.
Most importantly, the ongoing pressures of the pandemic have left everyone weary—we all could use a break.
Students with clinical or other academic activities that must take place will hear later today regarding the status of those offerings. We also know that some of our staff still must come to campus to maintain our facilities, public safety, some research activities, and other essential operations. We deeply appreciate their contributions, especially with weather as challenging as projections indicate.
Please stay safe and warm, and show patience to all of those working to prepare for this evening’s closure. They will update you as quickly as they can.
