Mission Statement

The Center on Poverty and Community Development is committed to providing quality data analysis and research that equips communities to make evidence-based decisions to reduce poverty and improve wellbeing. We acknowledge that structural and systematic racism are pervasive throughout society preventing communities from reaching their full potential. Through our research, we pledge to actively seek to uncover systemic racism and biases, with the ultimate goal of contributing to a more equitable and just society.

Based in Cleveland, the Center on Poverty and Community Development (Poverty Center) is a trusted community partner that provides rich data infrastructure and research expertise to address the challenges associated with poverty, its causes, and its impact on communities, families, children, and neighborhoods. We work with communities to effect change locally, and our experience has relevant implications for research and policies nationwide. Over more than 30 years, our work has centered upon:

We equip communities with the information needed to make evidence-based decisions to reduce poverty and improve wellbeing.

We seek to uncover and address systemic racism and bias to contribute to a more just society.

We work to build communities and produce change locally and to inspire other communities as a representative urban center from which nationally-relevant research and policy implications can be drawn.
