Along with protecting important habitat and environmental education, the Sierra Club also helps prospective college students navigate through the floods of possible schools by ranking the environmentally-friendliness of many institutions of higher education. Sierra Club Cool Schools 2016 just came out in early September.
Case Western Reserve ranked 89 out of 201 participating institutions this year. More schools submitted for the ranking this past year and the Sierra Club continues to tweak their ranking system. Find out more about the numbers and see the entire list of "cool schools" at the Sierra Club's website.
The rankings were created with self reported information submitted to the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) through their Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS). The CWRU Office for Sustainability gathers data and information from many people on campus including dining and Bon Appetit, procurement, facilities, grounds, institutional research, access services, the registrar and more.
