While images, audio and video can increase visitor retention and engagement, they create accessibility issues unless handled properly.
Audio
For the hearing impaired, a transcript should accompany audio-only content, and closed captions should be available for video.
Video
Video content should be easy to understand through the video’s audio track. If there are visual elements that convey important information, a separate audio track that describes the visual elements should be made available.
Images
Photos, illustrations and more need to have alt text that describes the image, unless the image serves a solely decorative purpose (e.g. photos on the Case Quad on a general page about campus). Learn more about alt text.
