The vision of Case Western Reserve University’s LGBT Center is to foster an empowering, loving and equitable environment for our multifaceted community to thrive within CWRU. The LGBT Center’s mission is to provide support and advocacy to LGBTQIA+ individuals within CWRU and provide a haven to those who are seeking solidarity and community.
Founded in 2010, the LGBT Center at CWRU recently celebrated its 10th anniversary on campus, and we’re proud to be consistently ranked as one of the most LGBTQIA+-friendly universities in Ohio and the country. We proudly hold a 4.5/5 star ranking on the Campus Pride Index and are constantly working to create an even more welcoming and inclusive campus for our LGBTQIA+ students.
The LGBT Center is staffed by Director Liz Roccoforte, Assistant Director Harry Hawkins and undergraduate and graduate student coordinators. The LGBT Center staff facilitate education programs and conversation groups, and offer advising and advocacy to the campus community. Outfitted with a TV, couch, chairs, ample desk space and more, the center is a great place to relax, study or gather to meet and enjoy the company of fellow students. Both informal gatherings and structured events are supported and encouraged. The center also offers a library stocked with books and periodicals, as well as brochures and other resources pertaining to LGBTQIA+ topics.
The LGBT Center is located at the heart of campus on the first floor of the Tinkham Veale University Center. The space provides an inviting home to members of the LGBT and allied community interested in exploring and celebrating LGBTQIA+ identities. Beyond the student base, the LGBT Center also welcomes alumni, prospective students, staff and faculty, and community members.
There are a multitude of ways to be involved in LGBTQIA+ life on campus, from simply visiting our LGBT Center to study or socialize, to participating in our peer mentor program, “Queer Peers,” to taking part in our annual Drag Ball, which raises money for a local LGBTQIA+ nonprofit. CWRU has a vibrant and diverse LGBTQIA+ student body, who have found CWRU to be a campus in which they can thrive both academically, socially and personally.
We encourage everyone to stay connected with our LGBT Center. Follow us on Instagram @lgbt_cwru, Twitter @CWRU_LGBTCenter and Facebook at facebook.com/LGBTCenterCWRU. And don’t forget to listen to this Spotify playlist to celebrate pride this month, and all year long!
