Case Western Reserve University is home to a growing number of artificial intelligence (AI) program pathways and course offerings designed to prepare students for leadership, innovation and impact in an AI-driven world.

Spanning technical, interdisciplinary, and human-centered approaches, these programs are designed to help students build the skills to understand, apply and shape AI across fields and futures.

Grow with Google Career Certificates

Through CWRU’s participation in the Grow with Google AI for Education Accelerator, the university is expanding access to Google Career Certificates through Coursera for the campus community—creating new opportunities to build practical, job-relevant AI and professional skills. 

Requests are reviewed weekly, with access typically granted within 4–7 business days; licenses are limited, so early requests are encouraged.

Undergraduate Degrees in AI

  • Major in Artificial Intelligence: New Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts pathways in Artificial Intelligence offer students rigorous, interdisciplinary academic options in AI through Case School of Engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences. Students will build foundations in computing, machine learning, applied AI, and societal impact—preparing them to become AI professionals, innovators, responsible technologists and leaders who can design, evaluate and apply AI across disciplines.
  • Major in Humanity and Technology (HAT): This interdisciplinary major brings together humanities, arts, STEM, and emerging technologies—preparing students to become thoughtful leaders and creative problem-solvers who can address complex challenges at the intersections of humanity and technology.
  • Minor in Artificial Intelligence: This technical minor is designed to build foundational AI skills while providing the depth and breadth needed to meaningfully complement a student's major, preparing students to understand, evaluate and apply AI skills within their own fields of study.
  • Minor in Applied AI (NEW, In Approval): This applied minor focuses on practical, hands-on applications of AI tools and methods—preparing students who can responsibly apply AI in professional, creative, research, and discipline-specific settings.

Graduate Offerings and Certificates

In addition to dedicated undergraduate degrees and course offerings, CWRU offers a growing number of specialized AI programs.

  • Master of Business Analytics and Intelligence (MBusAI): Weatherhead’s 16-month, full-time program prepares students for data science and analytics roles through coursework in business foundations, analytics skills and business applications. Students work with real-world industry data while building professional connections through internships, mentorship and networking opportunities.
  • Online Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS): Explore this flexible, in-depth program designed for a broad AI education.
  • Professional Certificate in AI: CWRU’s academic Certificate in AI offers a deeper pathway for learners seeking advanced study in artificial intelligence. The program includes five courses selected from AI offerings such as machine learning, computer vision, deep generative models, AI in medical imaging, and responsible AI engineering.
  • Executive Education Artificial Intelligence Certificate: The Executive Education Artificial Intelligence Certificate is offered for professionals seeking applied, career-focused learning. The certificate is awarded after completion of four elective courses within the program.
