Dean Tufts

Campus Planning & Facilities Management

Dean was appointed the Vice President for Campus Planning & Facilities Management in August 2022 and serves under the Executive Vice President for Finance as the University’s senior facilities management and construction officer. He also oversees Energy & Sustainability, Customer Service and the University Farm.

Additional Information

Originally from Western Massachusetts, Dean earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University.  He also holds a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley; a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the College of Naval Command and Staff, Naval War College; and an Advanced Management Certificate from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

Prior to Case Western Reserve University, Dean served as the Vice President for Facilities & Services at Stony Brook University on Long Island, NY.

In 2019, Dean completed a 30-year Navy career as part of the Civil Engineer Corps, the Navy’s facilities experts.  Included in his 15 different military assignments, Dean served as the Navy’s facilities operations officer at both Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Yokosuka, Japan; as the Navy’s deputy director of Shore Readiness at the Pentagon; and as the Commanding Officer of Naval Facilities Engineering Command Hawaii at Pearl Harbor.

Dean currently leads a team of over 300 dedicated individuals who are foundational to the success of the University and our campus community.
