Nicholas Christie

Assistant Vice President for Construction

Nicholas (Nick) Christie was appointed assistant vice president for construction in 2023 and leads the Construction department. Serving under campus planning and facilities management, he is responsible for the delivery and execution of construction projects across the university, managing a staff of five construction managers and two facilities project managers.

Nick brings more than 25 years of experience in planning, design and construction, with expertise in projects ranging from less than $1 million to more than $300 million. His experience includes Design-Build, Construction Management (CMc and CMa), and General Contracting delivery methods. Prior to and throughout his time at Case Western Reserve University, he has focused on delivering complex capital projects that support institutional priorities and long term campus development.

Since joining the university in 2009, Nick has completed more than 100 projects totaling over 5 million square feet across campus. Since assuming his current role in 2023, he has managed an annual average construction spend of $165 million. His work has emphasized continuous improvement, the implementation of efficient practices and the effective stewardship of university resources. Nick has also led and supported a number of sustainability initiatives across campus, including the commissioning of more than 1 million square feet of LEED Gold certified buildings, three wind turbines, multiple energy storage systems and photovoltaic arrays.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Bowling Green State University and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management.
