The Adelbert Gym project is managed by the Department of Campus Planning & Facilities Management at Case Western Reserve University. Learn more about the project below.

Schedule:

  • Project Start: TBD
  • Project Completion: TBD

Financials:

  • Total Project Cost: $18.1M

Scope of Project: Originally built as an Armory in 1919, Adelbert Gym was the home to the Western Reserve “Red Cats” for over 50 years. According to University records, the 1969-70 season was the last varsity season played in the gym. In 2018, the University made the decision to move competitive basketball events from Horsburgh gym (in the Veale Athletic Center) to Adelbert Gym. To enable this move, the more than 100-year-old facility will first need a major renovation and building addition to transform into a modern competitive basketball facility. The scope of work includes a complete renovation of the main building including 1,300+ seats, lighting, HVAC systems, locker room facilities, as well as restoration of the roof and façade. Additionally, the court itself will be refinished and relined to center it within the building. Finally, a new addition to the building will bring a lobby for ticketing and concessions, as well as a gallery to showcase CWRU sports history.
