Video: Medical students learn their residency placements during Match Day 2022

On March 18, the School of Medicine Class of 2022 learned where they will spend the next phase of their journey to become practicing physicians.

“Match Day” is one of the most important days for medical students, signifying where they will "match" for a residency program following graduation in May. Remarkably, much of this graduating class's clinical training was during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As in years past, the 199 students who matched were chosen by residency programs at top-ranked hospitals throughout the United States. Notably, 22% will continue serving the Cleveland community through residencies at Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth Medical Center and University Hospitals.

This year's top residency choices include anesthesiology, radiology, internal medicine, emergency medicine and general surgery. Thirty percent of the class will go into primary care specialties.
