Teamwork workshop

Case Western Reserve University’s Office of Interprofessional and Interdisciplinary Education and Research has partnered with the Administrative Professionals Network to offer a teamwork workshop Oct. 17 from noon to 5 p.m. at Samson Pavilion.

Tyler Reimschisel, MD, will discuss techniques for collaborative teamwork communication, including:

  • Developing a mindset for the team,
  • Review of Roger Schwarz’s book Smart Leaders Smarter Teams and his mutual learning approach for excellent teamwork, and
  • Enhancing team interactions through cognitive science.

“Effective communication is a core element of high-impact teamwork,” said Reimshisel. “Yet most of us lack formal training in productive communication skills and strategies.”

Workshop discussions will include how we can enhance team interactions by applying what we are learning from cognitive science, including naïve realism, the fallibility of our intuitions and other limitations of our perceptions.

The workshop will also explore the mutual learning approach to communication, including the values, assumptions and behaviors that guide individual performances in a team. Individual reflections, group work, team challenges and other interactive methods will be used to practice applying the mutual approach to real-life team situations.

Register for the teamwork workshop.

University shuttle service is available between main campus and the HEC.
