Rhythm and Roots: Latin American Symphonic Music presented by Minutemen Family of Companies.
Come hear the Contemporary Youth Orchestra perform selection representing the vibrant and diverse cultures of Latin America. From a Peruvian folk song originating in the Andes Mountains to the Argentinian countryside to the Mexican ballroom dance halls, these songs reflect each composer's love of their native people, culture and stories. This concert features compositions by Antonio Carlos Jobim (Brazil), Carlos Chavez (Mexico), Alberto Ginastera (Argentina), Arturo Marquez (Mexico), and Daniel Robles (Peru).
Contemporary Youth Orchestra is committed to the study and performance of exclusively contemporary and new orchestral music, with a focus on introducing students to careers in the creative arts industries. CYO defines contemporary repertoire as music written in the last 100 years, and we have a distinct interest in performing new music. CYO frequently commissions new works and seeks out adventurous programming opportunities.
