Ensemble Bio

Now in its 36th season, the Heights Chamber Orchestra, based in Cleveland Heights, brings together 50 talented amateur and professional musicians for the joy of community music-making at its highest level. Members hail from all over Northeast Ohio and all walks of life; some are Heights High alums and six founding members still play in the orchestra. HCO performs five free concerts each season presenting inspiring and challenging repertoire with renowned soloists and conductors. Yoon Jae Lee enjoys a multi-faceted career as conductor, arranger and pianist. As Founder & Artistic Director of Ensemble 212, he has built the New York based orchestra into one of today’s finest young ensembles. They have received critical acclaim for innovative programming featuring works by living composers, his own arrangements, and exciting interpretations of the standard repertoire. Guest conducting engagements include the Mansfield Symphony, PRIZM Chamber Orchestra, K Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Bruckner Orchester Linz, and the New England Conservatory. He is currently Principal Conductor of the Albano Ballet Company and engaged in The Mahler Chamber Project to arrange all Mahler symphonies and Das Lied von der Erde for chamber orchestra. The New York Times described his arrangement of Mahler's Fourth as “illuminating.....with solos leaping out in unusually bold detail.” He has also orchestrated Mendelssohn’s Octet which will soon be released on CD. Mr. Lee received degrees from the Mannes College of Music and also studied at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. He served on the faculties of the Queens College Aaron Copland School of Music, the City College of New York and Haverford College.
