Elevator Speech
Opioids, widely used for pain management, also increase susceptibility to infection and other health problems. We want to better understand the specific mechanisms by which opioids inhibit function of CD4+ cells, which play a critical role in the immune system response, and identify (ribonucleic acid) sequences that may mediate this inhibition.
Reflection
"Spending the summer on campus was an overall very positive experience. I enjoyed attending the weekly SOURCE seminars and seeing the wide variety of projects other students were working on across campus. I would definitely recommend to any students who are interested in research to find a summer research experience because you are able to learn and practice much more than during the school year."
