The Office for Sustainability, Student Sustainability Council and Residence Hall Association hosted a two-week residence hall energy reduction competition from Halloween through November 14. Residence halls on Northside, Southside and The Village at 115th (including the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Residence Hall) competed to reduce their energy consumption.
The Village and Stephanie Tubbs Jones Residence Hall won by reducing their energy usage 7% from baseline (the same week last year). Northside reduced consumption 4% and Southside saw a 3.5%. "We're really happy with the results. Our Sustainability Ambassadors did a great job organizing the contest."
An outdoor, unplugged party was held for the winning cluster on Friday November 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the courtyard between Houses Two and Three at the Village to honor and celebrate their victory.
The party included a campfire and cookout, complete with s’mores and hot dogs (and veggie dogs). Free CWRU “unplugged” long-sleeved tees were given out to the first 250 energy champions from the winning residence halls.
