Central Files

The Central Files division of the Department of Advancement Services maintains files and documents for individuals, corporations, foundations, associations and estates. Central Files does not maintain a file for every alumnus of the university. Rather, files are primarily kept for donors to the university and for major prospects and friends.

In order for the Central Files unit to maintain accurate files and provide information that reflects the university’s ongoing relationships, guidelines for documents that should be maintained in the Central Files have been established. Compliance with these guidelines is requested and expected.

The Department of Advancement Services loans files to staff members as needed. The files are confidential, fragile and irreplaceable. The files have legal, administrative and historical value to the university and should be handled with care. Just as borrowing a book from a library, a file is loaned for a short, finite period of time.
