Capital Assets & Equipment Accounting

The Capital Assets department is responsible for overseeing the accounting of the University’s capital assets for all areas of Case Western Reserve University for both internal and external reporting purposes. The department works directly with the Campus Planning and Facilities Management department, maintains financial records and accounts for all capital assets, which includes both fixed assets, construction projects, and moveable equipment recorded and tracked within the University’s asset management system.

Capital equipment inventory is completed by the Equipment Accounting department to verify the existence of equipment and ensure that the inventory records of the University are accurate. All requests for disposition, transfers and trading of capital equipment must be submitted to so the inventory records can be updated in the university’s asset management system.  The department is also responsible for requests for capital equipment lists that will include information such as: equipment descriptions, manufacturer, model number, serial information, cost, Principal Investigator/custodian and acquisition speedtype.
