From the sports world to the startup world, Case Western Reserve University and University Athletic Association alumni athletes are proving that the skills that make great athletes—resilience, problem-solving, and teamwork—are the same ones that drive entrepreneurial success.
Sandra Oh Lin (CWR ’97, Case School of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University) broke records on the soccer field, but her biggest impact is in the world of STEAM education. Inspired by her own children, she founded KiwiCo, Inc., a company that has shipped over 50 million hands-on learning kits to spark curiosity and creativity in kids.
Just like in sports, setbacks in business are inevitable. Lin credits her time as a student-athlete for teaching her how to navigate challenges—whether it was recovering from an injury or securing early funding for KiwiCo.
The key? Adapt, persist, and keep going.
