Michael Bruder

Michael was appointed the university architect and assistant vice president for planning and design in December 2023 and serves under the vice president for campus planning and facilities management as the university’s senior planning and design designer.

A native of northeast Ohio, Michael earned a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Architecture from Kent State University. He is a registered architect in the state of Ohio. Prior to Case Western Reserve University, Michael was a design-build manager for Gilbane Building Company in Cleveland, Ohio, where he focused on higher education and civic projects.

In 2020, Michael completed a 20-year career as the university architect and executive director of design and construction for Kent State University. He managed a team of architects, engineers, interior designers, landscape architects and accounting staff to execute up to $100M of design and construction per year on seven campuses. His focus was on executing comprehensive and cohesive long-term plans for the university to transform the campus into a beautiful, modern, residential campus woven into a mid-sized college town. Michael currently leads a team of six design and planning professionals and manages the design process with consulting architects and engineers on behalf of the university.
