After a CWRU department identifies a potential intern, the department should review that the intern and the internship are eligible. After verifying this, the department should complete the Initial Eligibility Application. Included in the Initial Eligibility Application are the following documents:
-
the Department Verification Form signed by the Department Chair/Director
-
English Proficiency Verification Form or acceptable official English language test score
-
J-1 Student Intern’s Home Academic Institution Certification Form
-
DS-7002 signed by the student intern and the department. A sample of how to complete the form can be found here.
The completed packet should be sent to international@case.edu.
Within 5-7 business days, the Initial Eligibility Application will be reviewed to determine if the internship meets the requirements for J-1 Student Intern sponsorship.
If the internship placement is eligible, the administrative fee of $550 will be due. Directions for setting up the payment will be sent upon completion and approval of initial eligibility.
An application will be created in Terra Dotta, ISS’ online application platform, where the student intern will be given instructions on how to upload the remaining necessary documentation.
Once the prospective student intern submits a completed application, the DS-2019 and final DS-7002 will be completed within 10 business days. ISS will send the student their completed DS-2019 and DS-7002 via Fedex.
Completed applications should be submitted no less than 2-3 months before the internship is to begin.
