Duo Noire is a "virtuosic pair” (I Care if You Listen) of the pioneering African-American classical guitarists Thomas Flippin and Christopher Mallett. Focusing on contemporary music, their concerts offer “profoundly enjoyable” genre-bending repertoire with “spectacular precision” (St. Louis Post- Dispatch). Recent highlights for the Duo include giving the world premiere of GRAMMY-nominee Nathalie Joachim’s new work for Duo Noire; filming a premiere recording at Severance Hall with members of The Cleveland Orchestra; and receiving a standing ovation at the Guitar Foundation of America Convention.
Thomas Flippin is a notable composer who CCGS has commissioned to compose a number of works, and Christopher Mallett is a leading proponent of Justin Holland, an African-American classical guitarist who lived in Cleveland in the nineteenth century. Don’t miss this dynamic duo in their return performance!
