Dear Faculty Teaching Undergraduate Students,
I hope that everyone had a relaxing break and that you are excited for the Spring 2025 term. As we kick off another semester, we encourage you to take the following actions.
- Check the Spring Semester Academic Calendar, and take note of important dates, deadlines and university holidays/closures as you plan assignments and exams for the semester. I have also included a list of important dates at the bottom of this email. For deadlines related to half-semester or dynamically-dated courses, please refer to the University Registrar’s website. Students with legitimate reasons for missing deadlines should contact the Office of Undergraduate Advising Support.
- Visit the Faculty and Advisors Resource webpage and Academic Policies in the General Bulletin for resources, policies and training information relevant to teaching and advising undergraduate students, along with an archive of important communications.
- Double-check your syllabi! Be sure to review the guidance on course syllabi that includes preferred language about disability accommodations and academic integrity. In addition, instructors’ attendance policies should be clearly described in the syllabus or other course materials and applied uniformly across students.
- Be clear on your expectations for the extent to which Artificial Intelligence tools can be used in your courses. See example statements which can be used in your communications to students.
- Take advantage of the programming and support for effective teaching and learning offered by University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education (UCITE) throughout the semester.
Thank you for all you do to advance our university’s mission. I hope everyone has a wonderful semester.
Sincerely,
Joy K. Ward
Provost and Executive Vice President
