Notice of Nondiscrimination

Case Western Reserve University prohibits sex- and gender-based discrimination in its education programs and activities, as well as retaliation for asserting the right to be free from such discrimination, in accordance with federal law, including Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (20 U.S.C. § 1681). Sex- and gender-based discrimination includes discrimination based on sex, pregnancy, parental status, gender identity or expression, transgender identity, and sexual orientation. Sex- or gender-based discrimination also includes sexual harassment, sexual assault, sex-based stalking, sexual exploitation, and dating violence or domestic violence.

The Title IX Coordinator in the Office of Equity is responsible for implementing the policy prohibiting sex- and gender-based discrimination.

Anyone impacted by sex- or gender-based discrimination, or who knows of others impacted by sex- or gender-based discrimination, and who would like to report discrimination or seek support for themselves or others, may contact the Title IX Coordinator by telephone, email, text message, or in person during regular business hours, or through the online Office of Equity forms on this page.

Pursuant to the Resolution Agreement with the Department of Justice, CWRU updated policies and procedures, while increasing education and training across the university. The CWRU Greek Life Title IX Protocols were created from this agreement.

These Office Standards will allow staff to hold chapters more accountable and have important information on hand when letters of good standing are requested, among other things.

Hazing is adverse to the culture, mission, and values of Case Western Reserve University. The university prohibits hazing, and the support thereof, by all persons as defined in this policy and applicable laws and investigates and responds to all reports of hazing. Students, student organizations, and other student groups, including other individuals associated with those organizations, are prohibited from hazing and failing to report hazing. Advisors acting in an official and professional capacity, or persons acting in an advisory role, are prohibited from permitting hazing and are required to timely report knowledge or suspicion of hazing activity.

The purpose of this policy is to maintain the safety and well-being of our community members while promoting healthy, safe, and secure environments, and being good stewards of the University's assets.

The governing bodies of the sororities and fraternities at CWRU create their own governing documents. 

The Panhellenic Council (PHC) governs 10 sororities. The Interfraternity Congress (IFC) governs 15 fraternities. PHC and IFC have some joint governance responsibilities over their 25 sororities and fraternities.

The Black Greek Council is in the process of reestablishing.
