Our Teams

From websites to marketing strategies, magazines to media relations, and everything in between, University Marketing and Communications (UMC) exists to help tell the story of Case Western Reserve University. Learn about the teams within our office to see how UMC can help you with your next project.

Creative Services

The creative services team helps you visualize your narratives and capture the attention of audiences. Our client relations specialists work with you to collect information and determine a format that will best reach your goals. Then, our designers take that information and bring it to life in the form of brochures, digital advertising, mailers, one pagers, annual reports, small and large-scale signage, magazines, and much, much more. We also review your materials and merchandise for brand compliance. Have a question related to CWRU’s brand or how it relates to merchandise orders? Email brand@case.edu. How about a challenge that requires a visual solution? Submit your request.

Marketing and Brand Strategy

The marketing and brand strategy team develops strategic plans that enable you to achieve your goals and win in the marketplace. Our specialists analyze your school, institute or program's overall strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, and identify ways to effectively engage the constituents identified as key to your mission. To learn how we can help you craft an integrated marketing plan, complete UMC’s project request form or contact bobrinderle@case.edu.

Graduate and Professional Enrollment Marketing

The graduate and professional enrollment marketing team works to develop marketing strategies to increase graduate program awareness and identify and engage prospective students. We work with you to identify unique selling points, personas and target audiences for your respective academic programs. We then determine appropriate communications vehicles (including print, email, website optimization, digital advertising and retargeting) to help you achieve your graduate enrollment goals. Contact us at umcgradmarketing@case.edu

Media Relations

The media relations team works to raise the university’s national/international profile through coverage of its newsworthy people, places and accomplishments in print, broadcast and online media. We do so by issuing news releases on research, grants, events or other interesting stories, pitch our faculty as expert resources to media outlets and manage reporter inquiries. The media team also helps protect the intellectual property, privacy and position of faculty, staff and students. Contact us at case-news@case.edu or visit our contact page to reach an individual directly.

Strategic Communications

The strategic communications team helps bring your stories to life. Through websites, social media posts, emails, magazines, internal communication strategies, annual reports, donor outreach, leadership remarks and more, we craft clear, concise messaging that elevates the Case Western Reserve University brand and celebrates the people who make it possible. Want to connect with us? Email strategic-comms@case.edu.

Administrative Operations

Whether working behind the scenes to ensure on-time, on-brand and on-budget delivery of your product or managing the day-to-day operations of a quickly growing staff, the administrative operations team is at the core of much of what we do. If you have questions, reach out to them at marcominfo@case.edu

Alumni and Development Communications

The alumni and development communications team shares the stories of the university’s graduates and donors—highlighting their affinity for Case Western Reserve and the impact they have, through their philanthropy and volunteerism, on current and future classes. The team also serves the university’s fundraising and alumni relations professionals with a wide range of marketing support—from communications strategy and presentation materials to digital communications and print collateral. Have a story to tell or need one told? Email the team at devalumcomms@case.edu.

Internal Communications

The university's internal communications team shares news of our students, faculty and staff with each school or unit and, when appropriate, across campus. Using platforms including internal emails, social media pages, websites and digital signage, they communicate important messages and amplify inspiring stories from the CWRU community. Please contact one of our internal communications managers for assistance with your next project.

Online and Strategic Communications

The online and strategic communications team works to expand Case Western Reserve’s brand through digital platforms and multimedia content—whether telling the stories of our people or explaining their research through websites and social media. They create The Daily newsletter, populate CWRU’s main social media accounts, and spearhead efforts relating to search engine optimization (SEO) and web-writing best practices during website creations and migrations. For guidance on social media usage beyond CWRU’s social media policy or requesting an account, contact socialmedia@case.edu. For questions about The Daily beyond submitting content to run, contact case-daily@case.edu. All other questions or story ideas can be directed to strategic-comms@case.edu

Publications

University Marketing and Communications produces Case Western Reserve's flagship magazine, Think. Send story ideas directly to Think magazine's editor at Sandra.Livingston@case.edu - who also edits art/sci, one of CWRU's school publications. Additionally, UMC collaborates with several schools at Case Western Reserve University to publish magazines once or twice annually to showcase the schools’ latest news and developments. Examples include In Brief, Forefrontart|sci, Action and Case Law-Med. The editor and director of publications pulls together in-depth features about research, programs, students, alumni, faculty and staff—as well as brief updates from alumni—into each issue, and coordinates mailing them to targeted alumni and academic audiences. Send story ideas directly to the editor and director of publications at Lauren.Marchaza@case.edu.

Slate Marketing Communications

The Slate team oversees digital communications for graduate and professional programs—from prospect status to orientation—in Slate, Case Western Reserve University’s admissions platform. Communications include single-send and automated mass emails, SMS messages and portals (i.e., landing pages). Submit a request through the UMC Slate form or contact umcslatereview@case.edu with any questions.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud Email Communications

Case Western Reserve uses Salesforce Marketing Cloud for the majority of its email communications—especially those to donors, alumni, faculty, staff, students and external (non-prospective) audiences. To start an email request, read through and fill out our Marketing Cloud email request form.

Video

University Marketing and Communications’ video producer creates engaging content for a variety of CWRU audiences, including prospective students, media, donors and alumni. From concept to delivery, the producer plans and schedules filming locations and content, writes scripts, interviews subjects and edits video assets to bring university stories to life. (If you’re looking for support for filming an event, course or simply a project that UMC can’t take on, contact [U]Tech’s MediaVision department.)
