Research Interests

My main research interests at this time center on the psychology of religion and spirituality, with a special emphasis on two topics:

  1. religious and spiritual struggles;
  2. the causes and consequences of supernatural attributions (that is, supernatural explanations for events).

I’m also interested in the virtues of humility and forgiveness.

Research Projects

Over the next 3-5 years, most of my projects will focus on supernatural attributions and religious and spiritual struggles (e.g., anger at God, doubts and questions about religion, moral or interpersonal conflicts related to religion). We have received a grant from the John Templeton Foundation to study supernatural attributions.
