Pre-Tenure Extensions for Parenting
Parents who submit notification within one year of a child’s birth or adoption are guaranteed a one-year extension of the pre-tenure period, as noted in the Faculty Handbook (Chapter 3, Part One, Article I, G).
Such requests are prepared by the faculty member and submitted to their dean’s office for submission through Interfolio to the Office of the Provost.

Pre-Tenure Extensions for Other Reasons
Requests for pre-tenure extensions for special circumstances other than parenting are described in the Faculty Handbook (Chapter 3, Part One, Article I, G).
Such requests are submitted to the department chair as soon as possible after the event that forms the basis for the request and must be reviewed at the school level before being submitted through Interfolio to the Office of the Provost for a final decision.
