Welcome to the new CWRU Pride Alumni newsletter. This quarterly newsletter serves to inform alumni of upcoming events and news from and about the CWRU LGBTQIA+ community.


Upcoming Events

Rainbow Reception

Join the CWRU LGBT Center and Spectrum in welcoming new (and returning) students for the upcoming school year! Wednesday, August 22, 6 - 8 p.m., at the LGBT Center
 

Found Families

Join Found Families, a group helping to build social networks for CWRU students as they discuss Cleveland’s history. The last meeting of the summer is Saturday, August 25, 1 - 3 p.m., in the LGBT Center.
 

CWRU Pride LGBT Alumni Network Dessert Reception

Join us during Homecoming on Friday, October 12, 6 - 8 p.m., in the Guilford Lounge as we catch up and take a look at LGBT history in Cleveland!

Author Ken Schneck will discuss his new book LGBTQ Cleveland: Images of Modern America which spans nearly 50 years of Cleveland history.

A Look Back at Lavender Graduation 2018

Lavender Graduation is a yearly celebration recognizing the experiences and contributions of graduating LGBTQ+ students of the university and its affiliated schools. This past May, CWRU held their 8th annual Lavender Graduation. There were almost 25 graduating students in the ceremony! 

During the celebration, the LGBT Center presented two CWRU Prism awards in recognition of “going above and beyond in creating a welcoming space for LGBT individuals at CWRU.”
CWRU Prism Award: Sexual Assault and Violence Educators (SAVE), a student organization that advocates for survivors of sexual assault and provides education.
CWRU Prism Award: Eric Dicken (MNO ‘09), Assistant Vice President of Development for Engagement, Events and Protocol

CWRU Pride presented two CWRU Outstanding Student Awards in recognition of “outstanding contributions to the LGBTQ+ community of CWRU.”
CWRU Outstanding Student Award: Hayley Yocum (CWR ‘18) 
CWRU Outstanding Student Award: Jaden List

There were also two QGRAD awards. 
QGRAD Outstanding Graduate Student Award: Eris Venia Eady (MGT ‘18), Weatherhead School of Management
QGRAD Outstanding Faculty Award: Tracey Messer, PhD (MGT ‘08), Weatherhead School of Management

CWRU Pride Outstanding Alumni Award Nominations

It’s time to nominate outstanding alumni who have made significant contributions to the LGBTQIA+ community! We’ll announce and present the award at this year’s Homecoming Dessert Reception.
