Kelvin Smith Library served as the backdrop and testing ground for this year’s WISER (Women in Science and Engineering Roundtable) light bulb drop competition—part of the university’s E-Week (Engineers Week) celebration in February.
Using simple household materials, students constructed devices to protect incandescent light bulbs as they were dropped from the library’s central staircase. After each round, participants whose light bulbs remained intact moved upward to the next floor to test their design.
The three 2023 WISER light bulb winners were Sohum Mehta, Angel Ramirez, and Aaron Bielecki.
