  • Undergraduates must complete a minimum of 90 credits to earn their bachelor's degree which includes major(s), minor(s), UGER, breadth, and SAGES requirements.
  • Undergraduates complete 30 credits at the graduate level as approved by the MA in Bioethics and Medical Humanities program. These credits count towards both the bachelor’s and the master’s degree. This will enable the students to reach the required 120 credits to graduate with a bachelor’s degree.

Up to 9 credit hours of graduate level coursework appropriate to the master’s program taken as an undergraduate may be internally transferred to the graduate transcript to count toward both degrees. In addition, any graduate level courses taken while enrolled as an undergraduate that are in excess of undergraduate degree requirements, including the total number of credit-hours required for the undergraduate degree, may also be internally transferred to the graduate transcript.

What does this mean?

  • Undergraduates must complete a minimum of 111 credits to earn their bachelor's degree which includes major(s), minor(s), UGER, breadth, and SAGES requirements.
  • Undergraduates can complete up to 9 credits at the graduate level as approved by the MA in Bioethics and Medical Humanities program to count towards both the bachelor’s and the master’s degree. This will enable the students to reach the required 120 credits to graduate with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Undergraduates (or if they become graduate students) finish the remaining 21 credits at the graduate level as approved by the MA in Bioethics and Medical Humanities program. This will enable students to reach the required 30 credits to graduate with a MA in Bioethics and Medical Humanities degree.

Eligibility

  • All CWRU undergraduates regardless of major are eligible to apply to the MA in Bioethics and Medical Humanities. The interdisciplinary and interprofessional nature of our program welcomes diverse educational backgrounds and experiences. The customizable curriculum allows for any interested student to create a unique course plan that fits their career path.
  • Grad studies require that students have accumulated at least 60 credit hours towards the bachelor's degree. Generally, this means that a student will submit the application during their sixth semester of undergraduate course enrollment (Fall junior year) and will have no fewer than one semester of remaining undergraduate requirements (Fall senior year) to complete.
  • All interested students must submit their MA in Bioethics and Medical Humanities application for the Combined Bachelors/Masters Degrees (CBMD) by the deadline of March 1 in order to start in the program for the upcoming Fall semester.
  • Students are required to meet with Program Director Dr. Jeunnette to discuss eligibility and program of study. Students should bring a list of remaining undergraduate courses to the meeting to aid the discussion of the meeting.

Students should plan to start the MA program no earlier than Fall semester of senior year. Students will not be allowed to take any core courses prior to senior year.

Students will be charged tuition at the undergraduate level until the undergraduate degree is awarded. After being awarded the undergraduate degree, a student enrolls at the graduate level, pays the tuition associated with that program to complete any remaining requirements for the master’s degree, and no longer has access to any remaining undergraduate scholarship. The Financial Aid Office is available to answer more specific questions about scholarships.

Fall 2025 application and other future cycles deadline is March 1.

Students who plan to apply for this program are required to meet with MA program director Dr. Jeunnette lsj11@case.edu prior to submitting their application in order to create a plan of study including remaining undergraduate courses and MA courses.
