Participants decide what to discuss and facilitators are there as guides. You do not have to attend every session. Join when you can!

Michael Walton
Title: Facilitator, Catalyst, Coach, Urban Farmer
Organization: Catalytic Change Link
In the field of Urban Agriculture, Michael has received certification in the OSU Extension Market Gardener Program and studied with Will Allen of Growing Power in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He has built numerous Hoop House/High Tunnels in Greater Cleveland and has been active in connecting food and health and extolling the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and a diet comprised mostly of fresh, locally grown produce. Michael is passionate about reducing race and place-based health disparities and helping people live this truth: Real Food Matters. Michael has been one of the most active facilitators of experiential education in Northern Ohio and has demonstrated skill in applying this methodology to therapeutic gardening and smoking cessation as a chemical dependency counselor. He was a member of the Nourishing Power Network Advisory Council and co-facilitated the 2024 Nourishing Power Fellowship and the 2025 REACH Fellowship (focused on produce prescriptions).
Shane Benton
Title: Food Access Manager
Organization: Rural Action
Shane Benton is Rural Action’s Food Access Program Manager. Prior to assuming this role, Shane served as an AmeriCorps with Rural Action’s Zero Waste team then with the Sustainable Agriculture program where he helped facilitate the acquisition & distribution of over 70,000 pounds of local food to over 40 food pantries in 9 southeast Ohio counties during the spring & summer of 2023. As Farm to Institution AmeriCorps, Shane served with a team of volunteers providing locally grown produce to local hospitals, schools and school children throughout the 2022-2023 school year and as well as into the summer.
Following many years of working and managing in the service & hospitality industry, Shane graduated from the University of Louisville with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and an English minor. While Shane remains proud of his Kentucky roots, he is excited to be in southeast Ohio working and serving alongside this region’s champions of sustainability as he settles into his new home.
The REACH project is funded by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, through the Cuyahoga County Board of Health. Our partners on the project are Better Health Partnership, Catalytic Change Link, Cleveland Fresh LLC, North American Food Systems Network, Ohio Farmers Market Network, Produce Perks Midwest, and Rural Action. This project is funded from December 30, 2023 to September 29, 2028.
