Alan brings nearly three decades of experience to the UMC team. As an assistant director, he manages development and alumni communications for the schools of arts & sciences, engineering, law, management and social sciences.
Prior to joining CWRU in the fall of 2025, Alan was a member of the central business team at the nonprofit newsroom Signal Ohio for two years. That came on the heels of a seven-year stint as the media relations officer at the Cleveland Foundation. His extensive communications background also includes stops at the Pennsylvania State University, Cleveland State University and Kent State University. Additionally, he spent five years as an account supervisor at WhiteSpace Creative in Akron, where his numerous nonprofit and higher education clients included the Case School of Engineering.
A graduate of the University of Virginia, Alan enjoys kayaking, hiking and cheering on the Guardians. He and his wife, Kara, live in Shaker Heights and are the proud parents of two daughters, both of whom are teachers.
