The Alumni Association of Case Western Reserve University is proud to recognize outstanding, notable and accomplished alumni and friends of Case Western Reserve University.

The recipients of Alumni Awards, except where noted, must be a graduate of Case Western Reserve University or one of its predecessor institutions. Members of the Recognition Committee of The Alumni Association determine the recipients from nominations that are received each year by the May 31 deadline. All nominations received are considered active for three years.

Distinguished Alumni Award

The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes an alumnus or alumna who has made distinguished and outstanding contributions to his or her profession or field of interest and, over the course of a lifetime, brought benefit to his or her community, humanity and honor to the university by embodying the values and spirit of Case Western Reserve University. This award is the highest honor bestowed by The Alumni Association.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a graduate of Case Western Reserve University.
  • Must have achieved broad recognition for extraordinary creativity, advancement of knowledge or technology, performance or the advancement of mankind through application of his or her Case Western Reserve University education.

 


Professional Achievement Award

The Professional Achievement Award recognizes an outstanding alumnus or alumna of Case Western Reserve University who has achieved exceptional accomplishment in his or her career and has brought distinction to himself or herself and Case Western Reserve through the benefits of vocation and leadership in his or her professional community.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a graduate of Case Western Reserve University.
  • Exemplary professional or career achievement rooted in a Case Western Reserve University education.

 


Young Alumni Award

The Young Alumni Award recognizes an outstanding alumnus or alumna of Case Western Reserve University who is 40 years old or younger. The award is given to an alumnus or alumna who has demonstrated excellence in his or her professional field and/or has demonstrated service to his or her community, the public or humanity, embodying the values and spirit of Case Western Reserve.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a graduate of Case Western Reserve University.
  • Must be 40 years old or younger (as of December 31 of the year nominated).
  • Exemplary professional achievement and/or demonstrated service to his or her community, the public or humanity, rooted in a Case Western Reserve University education.

 


Daniel T. Clancy Alumni Service Award

The Daniel T. Clancy Alumni Service Award is named in honor of the contributions of Dan Clancy to the alumni of Case Western Reserve University. This award recognizes an outstanding alumnus or alumna who has been active in alumni affairs for at least 15 years and has made significant contributions to alumni association(s) of Case Western Reserve University and their programs.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a graduate of Case Western Reserve University.
  • Must have made sustained, consistent and significant contributions of time, effort, expertise or talent to the alumni and alumni programs of Case Western Reserve University for at least 15 years.
  • Must have made significant contributions of time, effort, expertise or talent to alumni association(s) of Case Western Reserve University.

 


Newton D. Baker Distinguished Service Award

Formerly given by the university's Undergraduate Alumni Association, the Newton D. Baker Distinguished Service Award honors the lifetime legacy and community endeavors of Newton D. Baker, who urged everyone to volunteer their time, talent and service to those in need. Baker was the 37th mayor of Cleveland, served as Secretary of War under President Woodrow Wilson and was a major supporter of Cleveland College. In 1916, he and two partners founded BakerHostetler, one of the nation's top 50 law firms with more than 900 attorneys serving clients around the world.

This award recognizes significant service to the university by any alumnus or alumna, staff member, faculty or friend of the university who has given their time, expertise or leadership generously, thereby ensuring the prolonged welfare of the institution for generations to come.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a graduate, staff member, faculty or friend of the university.
  • Must exemplify service to the community (in any geographic area) through service to Case Western Reserve University.
  • Must honor the legacy of Newton D. Baker, a noted public servant and community leader.
