Message from President Kaler
To our faculty, staff and postdocs:
In celebration of our graduates each May, the university community comes together on one afternoon to kick off Commencement Week with our annual Clap Out, University Convocation and the Spartan Send-off. We invite you to join us for this year’s festivities, which will take place on Wednesday, May 14:
- Clap Out, 3 p.m., Case Quad: Gather along the Case Quad’s main pathway to applaud graduates as they process from the Binary Walkway to the Veale Convocation, Recreation and Athletic Center for University Convocation. The academic procession, which begins at Adelbert Hall, will follow graduates. Faculty who wish to participate in the procession must register (regalia is required). Supervisors, please plan ahead so that those who wish to participate, including both exempt and non-exempt staff, are able to do so.
- University Convocation, 3:30 p.m., Veale Convocation, Recreation and Athletic Center: This year, our convocation speaker is Susie Gharib (FSM ’72), an award-winning business journalist who served 18 years on the CWRU Board of Trustees and is currently a trustee emerita. Please note that this event is open to graduating students, faculty, staff and postdocs only.
- Spartan Send-off (immediately following convocation): At the conclusion of convocation, follow our graduates to Van Horn Field for food, fun and music.
All faculty, staff and postdocs who plan to attend University Convocation, and any faculty who wish to attend a Commencement Week diploma ceremony, should register online. In addition, those interested in volunteering to help with our diploma ceremonies can learn more about specific shifts/opportunities and sign up online.
