Resources Available at CWRU
The Office for Equity is available to support anyone who is experiencing or has experienced sexual harassment or sexual violence, and anyone who is accused of or rumored to be responsible for engaging in that conduct. Obtaining support is a primary reason for contacting the Office for Equity to share information about your experience or someone else's. The Office for Equity wants to ensure that CWRU community members feel supported. To do that Equity:
- Will always ask if you feel safe
- Offers immediate support, without an investigation
- Provides support with no strings attached. This means that Equity will support you whether or not you share the details of your experience, whether or not you make a complaint against the other person, and whether or not you decide to participate in an investigation.
- Equally supports persons who experience sexual harassment and those who are accused of violating the Sexual Harassment Policy
To make sure that Equity learns who might need support, almost all CWRU employees, including student employees, are Responsible Employees who must share the names of people who might need support with the Office for Equity. This lets Equity reach out to those people and offer support. No one is required to respond to Equity's outreach about support.
The opposite of a Responsible Employee is a Confidential Resource. Below, Equity identifies several confidential and Responsible Employee resources to support members of the CWRU community impacted by sexual harassment or sexual violence. These resources are available to people who experience or have previously experienced sexual harassment or sexual violence, those who are accused of doing such things, and witnesses and others, such as roommates and close friends who are supporting someone who is impacted by sexual harassment or sexual violence.
Confidential Support
Confidential resources do not share with the the Office for Equity when they learn that someone is impacted by sexual harassment or sexual violence, unless required by law, such as when there is an imminent threat to self or others. Confidential resources provide advice, support, and guidance about how to manage the situation and do not share any information with the Office for Equity. A conversation with a confidential resource won't result in outreach from the Office for Equity and is not considered a report to the university or a request that CWRU take any action.
