Dependents of Faculty/Staff from Case Western Reserve (Exports)
Coordination of Benefits & Institutional Limits
Dependents may use a combination of university‑sponsored tuition programs. Any use of these programs reduces the remaining tuition benefit eligibility available to the dependent through Case Western Reserve University.
This institutional limit applies to:
- Tuition Exchange (undergraduate only up to 8 semesters) and
- Faculty/Staff Tuition Waiver (undergraduate and graduate; full‑time counted by semesters and part‑time measured by credit hours up to 120 credit hours or the minimum credit hours required by the student's degree program)
Scholarship Coverage & Exclusions
- Value of the Scholarship: Tuition Exchange (TE) Scholarships typically cover one-half of tuition for a non-resident at a public institution, full tuition if tuition is below the annual standard rate set by the TE consortium, or the annual standard rate if tuition exceeds it.
- High-Tuition Institutions: Member institutions with tuition exceeding the national Tuition Exchange standard rate may elect to cover up to their full tuition or to award the set annual rate of $44,000 for 2026-2027.
- Exclusions: TE scholarships generally do not cover special fees, course overloads, or room and board charges.
- Student Status: This program is available to first-year, transfer, and continuing undergraduate students who do not yet hold a bachelor's degree.
Application Process & Selection
- Competitive Selection: TE Scholarships and admissions are competitive and never guaranteed. Eligible dependent students are evaluated and selected based entirely on the specific admissions and awarding criteria of the host institution to which they apply.
- How to Apply: The student, not the parent, must initiate the process by completing the online TE EZ-Application. Parents should not create the account.
- Account Email Warning: The student should use an enduring personal email address rather than a temporary high school account. Since an email address can only be linked to one account, using a parent’s email address will prevent other dependents from creating accounts in the future.
Maintaining Scholarship Eligibility
- Employment Verification: The CWRU employee must maintain continuous employment and remain eligible for the 100% CWRU dependent tuition benefit. The CWRU HR Tuition Exchange Liaison Officer verifies this eligibility each semester.
- Timeframes & Deadlines: The scholarship is available for up to 4 years within a 5-year window starting from the first semester in which the scholarship is used. If a student does not use the TE scholarship for three consecutive semesters, they forfeit their eligibility and must reapply for certification.
- Academic Standards: Students must meet the minimum academic and behavioral standards required by their host institution to continue receiving the scholarship.
- Reporting Obligations: Any enrollment changes (such as standard withdrawals, leaves of absence, or early graduation) must be reported immediately to the Import school Tuition Exchange Liaison Officer.
