Pre-Departure Orientations

All Study Abroad Programs

Students studying abroad for any length of time must complete Pre-departure Education on health, safety, and risk management; cultural and academic awareness; and travel logistics. Pre-departure Education will be completed online as an interactive, required online course that takes students on a traveler's journey to become better managers of their own health, safety, and potential risks while abroad.

  • The online course will take about 2.5 hours to complete, in total
  • We recommend completing it in 2 - 3 sittings and using a computer (not a mobile device)

Note that many faculty-led study abroad programs may schedule additional Health and Safety Orientations as part of course meetings/seminars.

Summer, Semester & Yearlong Study Abroad Programs

Students studying abroad for a semester, year, or summer session at an overseas program/institution  are required to attend two orientations:

  1. The Pre-Departure Education online course modules mentioned above and
  2. An Academic and Cultural pre-departure orientation (most likely in-person)

Academic and Cultural orientations are offered twice each semester. Students will register via CampusGroups.

For Spring, Calendar Year and Summer 2024, the date and format for these orientations are TBD. Once more information is known, this website will be updated. Thank you for your patience.

"Study Abroad" applies to any academic program that occurs internationally. Any student participating in a program occurring outside of the United States that is credit-eligible is subject to this requirement before their credits and participation will be approved.
