The Office of Education Abroad is responsible for maintaining the risk management standards of students, administrators, and faculty participating in education abroad experiences.
Requirements for Students Based on Program Types
All Case Western Reserve University students traveling internationally need to follow specific requirements related to safety and each type of program will have slightly different requirements, all contained within the application. Any student traveling abroad can also make an advising appointment through the Office of Education Abroad so that we can fully support your experience.
All Case Western Reserve students going on a faculty-led or faculty-designed study abroad program must apply through the Office of Education Abroad to ensure that safety precautions are followed. Students will not be permitted to participate in a Case Western Reserve program abroad unless they have filed the appropriate application.
Case Western Reserve students going on a faculty-led or faculty-designed study abroad programs are required to attend a health and safety pre-departure orientation. Students will not be permitted to participate in a Case Western Reserve program abroad unless they attended this pre-departure orientation.
All undergraduate students participating in a semester, year or summer program must apply through the Office of Education Abroad in accordance with its deadlines in order to ensure that risk management procedures are followed.
In order to maintain Case Western Reserve student status during their time abroad and be allowed to transfer credit to Case Western Reserve, students must complete the appropriate application and all requirements in the Office of Education Abroad application system, which includes attending two pre-departure orientations:
Graduate students can only take part in a study abroad program approved by their department, school, and/or advisor.

Completing this registration allows students to travel abroad using Case Western Reserve resources, including the free International Travel Insurance.

Travel Review & Restrictions
The U.S. Department of State and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) post travel advisories to inform travelers of particular risks associated with traveling abroad.
Beginning October 2021, Case Western Reserve approved pilot procedures for study abroad and international travel that allow for a more nuanced approach to approving travel, and study abroad resumed to limited locations.
