The Freedman Fellows student program has been generously endowed by Walter Freedman and Karen Harrison. The endowment is managed by the Kelvin Smith Library.
About the Program
The Freedman Student Fellowships give undergraduate and graduate students funding to complete targeted digital projects under the guidance of Kelvin Smith Library staff and members of the Digital Scholarship team. Where the faculty fellowship program enables the Kelvin Smith Library to provide research grants to faculty whose work employs digital scholarship, the Freedman Student Fellowship program provides undergraduate and graduate students opportunities to apply for current digital scholarship projects under the mentorship of Digital Scholarship team and Research and Engagement librarians at KSL. Students may also propose their own digital scholarship project and apply for funding and mentorship for a project aligned with their academic discipline.

How to Apply
Applications for the 2024-2025 Freedman Fellowship are now closed.
Applications for the Freedman Student Fellows are posted on the CWRU student employment job site. Fellowships may begin in August, but most students begin their projects at the start of the Fall term. Fellowships must end by June of the following year. Student awards are compensated at the CWRU standard wage for student employees.
